Priority property tax bill

Contact:

AWC priority bill HB 1764 is another option in end-of-session budget negotiations. The bill would provide a local option to change the annual property tax limit from one percent to a limit linked to inflation and population growth.

Since 2001, annual increases have been capped at one percent, preventing property tax from keeping pace with inflation and population growth. This dataview is a hypothetical illustration showing the impact to cities if this local option had been in place the last ten years, instead of the current one percent.

This illustration does not attempt to show the impact of HB 1764 if enacted this year. Estimates of those projected impacts to local governments are available here.
