Clean Fuels Program rulemaking meeting this Tuesday

Contact: Brandy DeLange, Brianna Morin

Ecology is holding the next Clean Fuels Program rulemaking stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, March 15 from 9 am to 12 pm.

The new rule may:

  • Establish carbon intensity standards for transportation fuels used in Washington.
  • Assign compliance obligations to fuels with carbon intensities that exceed the standard.
  • Establish compliance methods including assigning credits to fuels that have carbon intensities below the standard.

This rulemaking may also update Chapter 173-455 WAC to establish the process for setting fees to recover the cost of developing and implementing the program.

Life Cycle Associates, the contractor hired to create the Washington GREET model, will be presenting the preliminary model during the meeting. Ecology will also provide an update on the rulemaking timeline, stakeholder comments received, and the draft rule.
