AWC nominated by WEDA for legislative work on TIF

Contact: Candice Bock, Jacob Ewing

AWC is honored that the Washington Economic Development Association nominated us as an Economic Development Advocate of the Year.

Last legislative session, AWC and a strong coalition of cities, counties, ports, private businesses, and other associations successfully advocated for the allowance of Tax Increment Financing in Washington state. Prior to the passage of the TIF legislation, Washington was one of only two other states that did not have some form of TIF available to local agencies.

With TIF, public agencies can use a property's appreciated value to finance infrastructure improvements to benefit a designated area. Local jurisdictions that use TIF benefit from improved public infrastructure, increased economic development, and local job growth.

AWC appreciates our public partners as well as the support of the Legislature to enact TIF in Washington.
