The State Auditor Pat McCarthy visited with AWC recently to share some updates about services offered by the State Auditor’s Office (SAO) as well as the new hourly rate for audits.

The new audit rate for 2024 is $139/hour, reflecting increased workforce costs.

SAO’s Center for Government Innovation continues to offer cyber security resources including a new cyber check up program, which could be especially helpful for smaller cities. Cyber checkups are fast, free, and independent assessments of your vulnerability to common threats along with steps your agency can take to reduce your vulnerability. The center also received additional state funding to increase capacity for cyber audits, which offer more complex and real-time system testing. Watch for more tips and information next month in recognition of “hacktober” cyber security awareness month.

SAO has also updated their Financial Intelligence Tool (FIT) to be mobile friendly. FIT provides a wealth of information about local government financial data.
