Emergency management for sheltering with pets

Contact: Derrick Nunnally, Emma Shepard, Jacob Ewing

A new emergency management law will require cities and counties to update their response plans to identify where people can take shelter alongside their pets, whether in the same area or under the same roof.

HB 1201 requires cities to designate a pet-friendly shelter, if practical. It also requires cities to post on their websites the locations of pet-friendly shelters, as well as information for planning an evacuation with a companion animal.
