Foreclosure protection efforts continue this session

Contact: Carl Schroeder, Shannon McClelland

HB 1105 was heard on January 18, proposing another round of foreclosure protections in Washington. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Tina Orwall (D–Des Moines), would make a series of policy changes meant to minimize tax foreclosures in the state.

HB 1105 intends to provide taxpayers with more and more effective options for dealing with late or missed tax payments – including payment plans and access to counseling services – which have been provided in recent years to address foreclosures on mortgages. Rep. Orwall has worked with the county treasurers to structure this proposal in a workable and administrable fashion.

We would appreciate any feedback if there are elements of this proposal you believe are problematic. Please contact Shannon McClelland with any comments.

Dates to remember

HB 1105 is scheduled for committee vote in the House Local Government on Wednesday, January 23 at 8 am.
