The Washington State Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has launched the Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety (WADEPS) dashboard.
The WADEPS database is now live, and law enforcement agencies throughout Washington must report data on incidents of use of force by September 2, 2025. The first report must include data from August 2025, per this letter from Attorney General Nick Brown to the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC).
The database was established in SB 5259 during the 2021 legislative session and codified in RCW 10.118.030. The law requires law enforcement agencies to report incidents involving certain types of force, including fatalities, bodily harm, and instances of a police officer using a firearm, taser, pepper spray, baton, vehicle, or canine, or striking a person with a weapon or their body.
Agencies are also required to report identifying information about the officer and only demographic information about the person involved in the incident, including gender, race, and ethnicity.
Law enforcement agencies will have to report this data each month, beginning September 2.
