Use of traffic safety cameras to expand under proposed legislation

Contact: Brandy DeLange

Two new bills, HB 1915 (Rep. Marcus Ricelli, D–Spokane) and HB 1969 (Rep. Jake Fey, D–Tacoma) would allow cities to expand the use of traffic safety cameras to include city parks, hospitals, and community centers. Complementing the two House bills, SB 5687, from Sen. Claire Wilson, makes further traffic safety improvements in cities. Together, the three proposals allow for the expansion of enforcement cameras in school walk areas, provide additional enforcement and safety mechanisms for cities and help to reach vision zero.

AWC supports all the three bills.

Date to remember

HB 1915 and HB 1969 will both be heard in the House Transportation Committee on January 25 at 3:30 pm.
