HB 2101, sponsored by Rep. Alicia Rule (D–Blaine), removes the fee for a childcare facility license. The WA Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) currently receives all of this revenue to cover their costs of processing the license application and any required inspections. The bill does not remove the childcare license itself, only the license fee.

HB 2111, sponsored by Rep. Greg Nance (D–Bainbridge Island), clarifies requirements for subsidized childcare. A Senate companion bill, SB 5941, sponsored by Sen. Claire Wilson (D–Federal Way), has not yet been scheduled.

HB 2101 and HB 2111 are scheduled for public hearings in the House Human Services, Youth & Early Learning Committee on Tuesday, January 9 at 1:30 pm and is scheduled for a vote in the same committee on Friday, January 12 at 8 am.
