Proposal to require cities to disclose utility taxes on billing statements

Contact: Candice Bock, Maggie Carol

HB 2889, sponsored by Rep. Dan Griffey (R–Allyn), requires city-owned utilities to disclose the fee or tax rate on each billing statement provided to customers.

AWC has concerns about the bill. This requirement could result in cities, particularly smaller cities, having to develop new billing practices or purchase new software to comply with HB 2889.

If your city has any feedback regarding HB 2889, please email Maggie.

Dates to remember

HB 2889 is scheduled for public hearing in the House Local Government Committee at 10 am on Tuesday, February 4. It is scheduled for a committee vote at 10 am on Friday, February 7.
