Contact: Sharon Swanson, Jacob Ewing

The Washington State Archives is seeking feedback from cities on proposed updates to the Law Enforcement Records Retention Schedule.

If adopted, the new retention schedule will represent the eighth version of the retention schedule. The proposed update includes:

  • Recent legislative changes;
  • A wider scope of impacted agencies including the Washington State Patrol, Department of Fish and Wildlife, State Parks and Recreation Commission, and university police departments; and
  • Numerous minor updates based on previous agency feedback.

A draft of the proposed retention schedule is available on the Washington State Archives’ website. Please send comments, suggestions and feedback to recordsmanagement@sos.wa.gov by close of business Friday, December 31, 2021.
