Archives offers free public records trainings

The Washington State Archives regularly offers a variety of free education and training opportunities to help individuals and agencies improve their public records management. Two of the upcoming trainings are listed below and the complete list of trainings can be found on the Washington State Archives’ website.

Open government training
November 28 | Eastsound on Orcas Island

This joint session, presented by Washington State Archives and the Office of the Attorney General, is an overview of the rules and requirements of the Public Records Act, Open Public Meetings, and Records Retention and Management. The training covers best practices, tips and strategies. The first half of this session fulfills the requirements of the Open Government Trainings Act. The second half of this session is for those interested in advanced public records training. Register now or see additional dates and locations.

Organizing the file room workshop
December 4 | Ellensburg

This hands-on workshop will cover the process of getting your agency’s paper records in order, from the pre-planning stage through the destruction/transfer stage. Attendees will develop a preliminary work plan for their organizing project and will practice assigning retention to records using real-life examples from their agency.
