State Tax Structure Work Group recommendations expected soon

Contact: Candice Bock, Sheila Gall

The State Tax Structure Work Group is scheduled to make recommendations on changes to the state’s tax structure at its meeting on December 13. The Department of Revenue is expected to provide economic models for several options the committee has been considering.

AWC has been tracking the committee’s work and is especially interested in two of the potential options that may impact local governments: replacing the state B&O tax with a margins tax and changing the one-percent limit on property taxes. At its November meeting, the work group voted to limit the Department of Revenue’s analysis on the property tax limit to local districts due to the committee’s mandate about a revenue neutral recommendation for state tax changes.

The committee’s report to the Legislature is due on December 31.
