New legislation requires prepaid postage for all elections

Contact: Candice Bock, Brandon Anderson

In May 2018, Governor Jay Inslee and Secretary of State Kim Wyman secured funding for statewide ballot return postage for the 2018 primary and general elections.

HB 1209, introduced last week, requires all future elections in Washington State to include prepaid postage. The legislation also requires the state to reimburse counties for the cost of return postage for all elections, including local elections.

AWC supports these efforts to expand voter participation in elections and to fund the costs. We will continue to monitor this bill.
