Grant program for fire protection capital projects in rural counties

Contact: Candice Bock, Sheila Gall

HB 1929, sponsored by Rep. Peter Abbarno (R–Centralia), would create a new grant program for capital projects for the provision of fire protection services in rural counties. The grant program would be limited to local governments in counties with a population density of less than 100 people per square mile or an area less than 225 square miles. The grant program would be administered by the Department of Commerce, and a committee that includes local government representatives would develop the program criteria.

AWC appreciates this effort to support smaller communities’ public safety needs.

Date to remember

HB 1929 is set for hearing in the House Capital Budget Committee on Tuesday, January 25 at 1:30 pm.
