State’s Road Usage Charge recommendations move forward

Contact: Logan Bahr, Shannon McClelland

The Road Usage Charge Steering Committee has completed its final report assessing a Road Usage Charge (RUC) in Washington.

The state’s gas tax revenue has flattened and is projected to decrease on a per-mile basis in the future. The RUC, also known as a pay-per-mile system, has been discussed as a potential replacement for the gas tax. The Washington State Transportation Commission will adopt final recommendations on the policy at its December 17 meeting in Olympia.

Check out the RUC Pilot Project homepage for more information on the program.
