City option to extend state property tax exemption to local levy lid lift

Contact: Andrew Pittelkau

HB 2597 would give local governments the option to exempt qualifying senior citizens, persons retired due to disability, and veterans suffering from a total service-related disability from paying property taxes on the amounts associated with a local levy lid lift. The exemption already exists for school district levies and a portion of the state property tax.

The bill has passed out of the House and is currently waiting in the Senate Committee on Ways & Means.
