OFM taking comments on revisions to 2021 population estimates

Contact: Candice Bock, Jacob Ewing

Due to the delay in receiving the 2020 census data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Office of Financial Management (OFM) is set to revise its previously published April 1, 2021 population estimates.

The revised estimates will be based on 2020 census data and the information previously report on the 2021 Housing Unit and Population Survey. The state will use the revised OFM population estimates to determine the allocation of select state revenues beginning January 1, 2022.

OFM will take comments on the proposed revisions until Monday, November 8. Cities should have received a preliminary estimate as well as notice of the comment period directly from OFM. Cities can also view preliminary estimates on OFM’s Population Estimate System.

For direct assistance with this matter, please contact Mike Mohrman, State Demographer.
