SB 5418, a bill impacting city public works project bid limits, was recently amended by the House Local Government Committee. The bill includes several provisions, including changes to public works bid limits.
The original version of the bill increases the limit for using the small works roster alternative bid process from $300,000 to $500,000, supported by AWC at other local government advocates. The House Local Government Committee, however, adopted an amendment that changes the limit from $300,000 to $350,000, significantly less than the original version of the bill.
The striker amendment also requires local governments that use the small works roster to obtain quotations from either all of the appropriate contractors on the list or at least five contractors who have indicated they are capable of performing the work. However, if the work is valued at more than $250,000, an agency that solicits bids from less than all of the appropriate contractors must also notify the remaining contractors on the roster that quotations on the work are being sought.

AWC is interested in hearing from cities and towns that use the small works roster about the anticipated impacts of this proposed change.
