Shared housing bill up for hearing

Contact: Carl Schroeder, Shannon McClelland

A Senate bill allowing the state Housing Trust Fund to invest in shared housing programs is scheduled for public hearing this week.

Many cities have expressed interest in exploring options to promote shared housing. Shared housing programs connect interested homeowners who have empty bedrooms with people needing housing in the community. Typically, these programs include background checks, matchmaking assistance, and other means to facilitate this peer-to-peer housing type.

SB 6546, sponsored by Sen. Hans Zeiger (R–Puyallup), would authorize the state Housing Trust Fund to invest in these types of programs.

Dates to remember

SB 6546 is scheduled for public hearing in the Senate Housing Stability & Affordability Committee on at 1:30 pm on Monday, February 3.
