AWC in partnership with the Washington Health Care Authority is pleased to announce the launch of the Alternative Response Team Grant (ARTG) Program.
The purpose of the ARTG Program is to provide funding to cities to create new programs within different alternative response models including law enforcement assisted diversion (LEAD), community assistance referral and education (CARES), and mobile crisis
teams. AWC has approximately $1.9 million in state grant funds available for cities.
To help cities apply for this grant opportunity, AWC will host two workshops on Wednesday, September 14 and Wednesday, September 21. During the workshops, AWC will:
- Educate cities on what alternative response models are available under the grant (CARES, LEAD, mobile crisis teams, etc.);
- Help cities understand which model could be most effective for their community;
- Explain costs, challenges, best practices, and pitfalls associated with starting up an alternative response team; and
- Review the grant application process, scoring, and timeline.
Both workshops will cover the same materials and will be recorded for later viewing on the ARTG Program webpage.

Applications for the ARTG program are due by Saturday, October 15. Successful applicants will be notified in early November. Funds from this program must be spent by June 30, 2023.
