If a governing body attends a training session, is it a public meeting subject to the OPMA?

Generally, no. AWC is a membership organization, and most conferences and events require a fee to attend. MRSC has advice on attending trainings, and AWC asks that you take this advice into account before noticing a conference or event. As always, you should consult with your city attorney on questions about the OPMA.

Can I share registration with a co-worker?

No. The registration fee includes access to the conference for one person. Badge sharing or splitting is strictly prohibited.

If I cancel my conference registration, can I get a refund?

Registration cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing by January 21, 2025. A refund of the full fee, minus a $75 administrative fee, will be given for cancellations received by that date. Submit all requests to registration@awcnet.org.

AWC regrets that refunds will not be given for no-shows. Substitutions are gladly accepted. The individual submitting the substitution request is responsible for all financial obligations (any balance due) associated with that substitution.

Conference badge sharing or splitting is strictly prohibited. In the event that the City Action Days is cancelled, or any portion of the event is cancelled, we will make every attempt to notify you. View our terms & conditions.

Can I earn continuing education credits for attending the conference?

AWC’s Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) program recognizes mayors and councilmembers for accomplishing training in five competency areas. In order to earn the certificate, municipal leaders must meet requirements in each of the following competencies and achieve a total of 30 CML credits:

  • Community planning and development
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Effective local leadership
  • Public sector resource management
  • Roles, responsibilities, and legal requirements

Upon completion of the conference, elected officials will automatically receive 3 CML credits in effective local leadership.
