New Statement of Policy to be voted on by AWC membership

Contact: Candice Bock

AWC’s Statement of Policy is not necessarily a document many are very aware of but it is a foundational document for AWC. It provides key guidance for setting legislative priorities each year and ongoing guidance to the Board as well as the staff when responding to policy issues. Per AWC’s bylaws it must be updated every six years. It was last adopted in 2014 and amended in 2015 so it was due for an update in 2020.

AWC convened the 25-member State and Federal Policy Committee to undertake the process of drafting an updated Statement of Policy that would reflect cities values and policy positions for the next six years. The Committee met three times over the Spring to draft the new document.

The Statement of Policy will go to the full membership for adoption at the Annual Business meeting on June 25. If anyone wishes to propose an amendment they must submit the form by June 24 at 5 pm.

To view the Statement of Policy and make amendments, please visit the AWC Business Meeting webpage.

AWC is very grateful to the members of the State and Federal Policy Committee. They were incredibly engaged in the process and the conversations were very thoughtful and insightful. We appreciate them volunteering their time and energy to this effort.
