Contact: Communications

OLYMPIA – More than 350 city officials from across Washington are arriving in Olympia on Wednesday for City Action Days, an annual conference hosted by the Association of Washington Cities.

Mayors, councilmembers, and other city officials from all corners of the state will gather to collectively ask state legislators to support city priorities.

Conference attendees from around the state are asking state policymakers to support the following five priorities:

  • Respond to the Blake decision
  • Address vehicle pursuits for public safety
  • Ensure basic infrastructure funding
  • Increase housing availability & affordability
  • Provide behavioral health resources

“Cities are the government closest to the people,” noted AWC CEO Deanna Dawson. “Local officials are deeply connected to their communities’ values, and their constituents’ needs. Legislators best serve their communities when they listen to, learn from, and partner with the cities in their district.”

City Action Days begins on Wednesday, February 15. Governor Jay Inslee is scheduled to address attendees on Wednesday afternoon. All conference general sessions will take place at the Olympia Hotel at Capitol Lake.

The complete schedule is available on the AWC website.

AWC serves its members through advocacy, education, and services. Founded in 1933, AWC is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan corporation that represents Washington's cities and towns before the state Legislature, the state executive branch, and with regulatory agencies. Membership is voluntary. However, AWC consistently maintains 100 percent participation from Washington’s 281 cities and towns.
