Bill eliminating lodging tax report ran out of time before adjournment

A bill to eliminate the requirement for cities and counties to report annually on lodging taxes to the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee did not get a vote in the Senate before adjournment. HB 2120 had been ready for floor action in the Senate since March 5, but the Senate likely ran out of time the last week of the session.

 


 

Bill eliminating annual lodging tax report passes Senate

A bill to eliminate the requirement for cities and counties to report annually to the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee (JLARC) on lodging taxes passed out of the Senate on February 13 (SB 5879). The House companion (HB 2120 passed the House last month.

Cities support eliminating this outdated reporting requirement.

 


 

Efficiency bill eliminating annual lodging tax report passes House

January 30, 2026

A bill to eliminate the requirement for cities and counties to report annually on lodging taxes passed off the House floor on January 29 (HB 2120). The Senate companion SB 5879 is scheduled to be voted out of the Senate Ways & Means Committee on February 3.

Cities support eliminating this outdated reporting requirement.

Cities support proposal to eliminate requirement for annual lodging tax report

January 16, 2026

Eliminating the lodging tax report to the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee (JLARC) is a regulatory efficiency proposal introduced by Rep. Gerry Pollet (D–Seattle) and Sen. Keith Wagoner (R–Sedro-Woolley) this session (HB 2120/SB 5879). Cities and counties are required to report data submitted by organizations that receive lodging tax funds for tourism promotion annually, but the data is not often used.

HB 2120 was heard in the House State Government & Tribal Relations Committee on January 14 and scheduled to pass out of committee on January 16.

Cities support eliminating this reporting requirement.
