Act now to protect MRSC’s services for local governments

Contact: Candice Bock, Sheila Gall

Funding for the Municipal Research and Services Center (MRSC) is not fully provided in the state’s proposed operating budgets, putting their technical assistance and training services for local governments at risk. Take a moment to ask your legislators to fully fund MRSC's services providing technical assistance to local governments. Remind them that:

  • MRSC’s funding comes from a small portion of liquor revenues allocated for city and county distributions. It does not impact the State’s general fund.
  • MRSC has provided needed services and respected resources that help cities comply with legal requirements and best practices for more than 90 years.

The Senate operating budget funds MRSC at $6.8 million, which is the previous biennium’s level but does not allow an increase for inflation. The House proposal cuts its funding to $6.1 million. When you contact your legislators to share city budget priorities as they negotiate a final budget before session ends in the next two weeks, ask them to fully fund MRSC’s valuable services for local governments.
