May marks Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, which celebrates the histories of Americans from across the Asian continent and from the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. This year’s theme, chosen by the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC) is “Advancing Leaders Through Innovation.”
There are many ways people can celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders and honor their experiences and cultures. Here are a few ideas for Washingtonians:
- Explore this map of Asian Pacific American Heritage Sites across the Pacific Northwest.
- Check out the Wing Luke Museum events calendar for community-driven programs encouraging visitors to discover Seattle’s Chinatown-International District and the stories of the broader AANHPI community.
- Browse ArtsWA’s web exhibit of works by AANHPI artists from cities all over Washington that are part of the Washington State Art Collection.
- Discover AANHPI Heritage Month resources from the Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs.
