Top eight takeaways from AWC’s Healthy Worksite Summit

Contact: Communications

In March, we gathered in Lynnwood with more than 300 attendees from municipal entities across the state for AWC’s Healthy Worksite Summit (HWS). This sold-out event features a stellar venue, fantastic food (seriously, everyone raves about it), amazing speakers from all over the country, great networking sessions, inspiring breakout groups, and informative panels.

HWS covers a wide breadth of topics, ranging from navigating burnout and managing mental health in the workplace, to bridging the gap between intention and habit. We learned how to build a workforce well-being program and discovered ways to integrate DEIB into workplace initiatives—and that was just day one!

In you missed it, catch these top 8 takeaways from HWS:

  1. Health and wellness lead to better outcomes
Science supports it! These programs lead to greater employee satisfaction, higher productivity, and better employee retention!
  2. Big changes happen through small actions
It’s always better to set small achievable goals and establish a framework that calls out failure as a steppingstone, not a stumbling block.
  3. Progress is built on great tools and innovative discussions
Gathering in person means creating real connections, and real connections provide new ideas, important support, and progress. Networking at Healthy Worksite Summit is always a great way to build innovation, inspire, share resources, and meet new friends and colleagues.
  4. Apps and podcasts are where it’s at!
Not only was the AWC events app much-touted, some speakers and special presenters recommended apps and other online tools to make people’s work easier and more effective. Good tools facilitate good work—and make that work more accessible (and sometimes, more fun).
  5. We are all in charge of monitoring our own well-being
No one can make change for you, and it doesn’t happen purely through intention. Our own struggles are opportunities for awareness, empathy, and understanding. Practice good listening and compassionate talk on yourself.
  6. Entities of every size benefit from wellness activities
From big organizations to cities of all sizes—all benefit from employee wellness and well-being (and the productivity brings great value to employees and the people they serve).
  7. HWS has GREAT speakers
They’re inspiring, fun, vulnerable, and informative. Catch their updates on our social media channels and in For Your Health. Their tools, resources, and ideas are applicable and implementable back in the workplace through easy and achievable action items.
  8. Try the Healthy Worksite Summit for yourself
If you are involved with health or wellness in the workplace and aren’t already participating in Healthy Worksite Summit, you should consider it. And, if your city has been on the proverbial fence about joining the AWC Employee Benefit Trust, take time to learn more.
