SB 5510, sponsored by Rep. Curtis King (R–Yakima), was heard in the House Transportation Committee late last week,
where it was passed on a 23-5 vote. The bill would modify the existing sales and use tax authority imposed by a transportation benefit district (TBD) and allow for voters to approve the tax every ten years in perpetuity. It currently awaits further
action in the House.
Despite its momentum, the bill could still use your help to make it all the way to the Governor’s desk. Contact your legislators to let them know how important this authority is to fund transportation projects such as new road construction, public
transit, and preservation and maintenance for existing roads and multimodal systems.
