Police liability fails to advance ahead of cutoff

Contact: Candice Bock, Jacob Ewing

A problematic bill that would have increased employers’ liability for injuries caused by the actions of a law enforcement officer failed to make it out of committee before the February 3 cutoff.

HB 1202 would have established a new level of liability for law enforcement officers and their employers. AWC worked closely with the bill sponsor and other stakeholders to share concerns about the bill and voice our disapproval. AWC is grateful for the hard work of Rep. My-Linh Thai who has been very active and gracious in her efforts to meet with stakeholders to discuss the impacts of the bill and look for ways to reduce our concerns.
