A bill providing grant money for body-worn cameras (BWC) received a unanimous vote of approval from the House Appropriations Committee.

HB 1845 creates a grant program for local law enforcement agencies to be administered through the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. The grant program will assist agencies with:

  • The initial purchase, maintenance, and replacement of BWCs;
  • Costs associated with the maintenance and storage of data recorded by BWCs; and
  • Costs associated with responding to public records requests and hiring additional personnel to assist with a BWC program.

HB 1845 now awaits a floor vote in the House.

AWC supports the bill.
