A bill that would create a grant program to assist with the costs of responding to community needs during extreme weather events is scheduled for a hearing the first week of the 2022 legislative session.
HB 1620, sponsored by Representative Mari Leavitt (D–University Place), establishes a grant program
for cities and federally recognized tribes to receive reimbursements for costs associated with activities such as establishing and operating warming and cooling centers, purchasing supplies such as food and water, and the costs associated with transporting
people and staffing.
