Department of Revenue releases local business licensing partnership plan

Contact: Candice Bock, Sheila Gall

The Department of Revenue (DOR) submitted its Local Business Licensing Partnership Plan for 2021-2023 in December. The report outlines the local business licensing service’s (BLS) two-year plan to onboard the remaining 42 cities into its licensing system through December 2022. By mid-2021, BLS had partnered with 174 cities for license administration.

The partnership plan is the result of legislation passed in 2017 that requires all cities with business licenses to partner with either the state’s BLS or FileLocal, a city tax and license portal, for administration of their business licenses. DOR is also required to submit a final report to the Legislature by January 1, 2023.
