Congratulations to the 16 municipal courts that received grant funding from the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) to establish therapeutic court programs in their communities.
Under SB 5476, the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) received $4.5 million in state funds to distribute as grants to municipal
and district courts for the creation of therapeutic courts around the state. Jurisdictions that receive grant money must use the funds to identify individuals with substance use disorders or other behavioral health needs and engage them through
community-based therapeutic interventions.
In total, AOC received 41 applications from both district and municipal courts. AOC awarded just over $3 million to the 16 municipal court winners. The remaining grant money was awarded to district courts. The municipal courts include:
- Airway Heights Municipal Court
- Black Diamond Municipal Court
- Bonney Lake Municipal Court/Sumner Municipal Court (joint program)
- Cheney Municipal Court
- Edmonds Municipal Court
- Federal Way Municipal Court
- Fife Municipal Court
- Issaquah Municipal Court
- Kirkland Municipal Court
- Marysville Municipal Court/Everett Municipal Court (joint program)
- Monroe Municipal Court
- Renton Municipal Court
- Shelton Municipal Court (joint program with Mason County)
- Tacoma Municipal Court
Congratulations to all the recipients! We look forward to hearing about your successes in using these grant funds in your communities.
As part of our 2022 legislative agenda, AWC will advocate for additional grant money to fully fund therapeutic courts across the state.
