This week cities are receiving their share of $20 million in city assistance funds allocated in the state’s 2021-2023 operating budget. These are one-time funds to offset costs generated by law enforcement and criminal justice related legislation
enacted between January 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.
Many cities have been asking if there is any specific guidance for use of these funds. No additional guidance has been issued. Cities should refer to the language in the adopted operating budget, SB 5092,
under Section 739 on page 507 which reads as follows:
The appropriation in this section is subject to the following conditions and limitations: The appropriation in this section is provided solely for the office of financial management to distribute to cities according to population to assist with one-time costs related to law enforcement and criminal justice related legislation enacted between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021.
