Office of Public Defense opens Public Defense Improvement Program funding opportunity

Contact: Sharon Swanson, Jacob Ewing

The Washington State Office of Public Defense is now accepting grant applications from cities for public defense improvement funds pursuant to RCW 10.101.050-080. The RCW establishes a state-funded grant program to improve public defense services in cities and counties. Grant funds are to be used to make appreciable, demonstrable improvements in the delivery of public defense services. Over the past two years more than 30 cities received competitive grants ranging from $2,500 to $93,500.

The application and program policies are available on the Office of Public Defense’s website.

The deadline for this year’s application is Friday, August 27. Please return your signed, completed application and attachments in PDF by email, and submit them to Nicole.Dodge@opd.wa.gov. OPD will send preliminary notification of grant awards and denials by late September.

If you have any questions about the application or appropriate uses of state funds, please feel free to contact Katrin.Johnson@opd.wa.gov or George.Yeannakis@opd.wa.gov.
