AWC staff presented to the House and Senate Transportation Committees and the Washington State Transportation Commission on city legislative priorities and operations.
Staff provided an overview on how cities fund transportation needs as well as highlighted the challenges that cities face in good and bad economic times. Nealy 80% of city transportation funding comes from local sources such as property taxes, sales and
use taxes, and B&O and utility taxes. Even in good economic times, funding has not kept up with growing costs.
AWC will continue to engage with transportation leaders and hopes to see city preservation and maintenance fully addressed in the final transportation revenue package.
