AWC’s Carl Schroeder, Buckley Mayor Pat Johnson, and Ridgefield City Manager Steve Stuart have been participating in a University of Washington-led review of the state growth management framework. The goal of the group is to reach consensus on ideas
to improve the functioning of growth management in Washington state.
After many hours of meetings over the last few months, the project leads have just released a comprehensive proposal attempting to synthesize the discussions to date. The proposal includes new, significant responsibilities for cities to plan for climate,
housing, environmental justice, and more. Regrettably, the proposal does not include funding for cities to take on this additional work despite AWC’s consistent advocacy for further funding to support existing planning responsibilities and new
work associated with this effort.

AWC has created an annotated version of the recently released proposal with comments and questions about many of the provisions. We need feedback from your city so we can accurately reflect your interests
and perspectives on these issues. Two upcoming UW meetings are scheduled to discuss the draft proposal: November 10 and 24. Feedback in advance of either meeting is preferred, but later feedback is also appreciated as related discussions will continue
into the legislative session. Please send your input to AWC Legislative and Policy Analyst Shannon McClelland.
