CDC and BJA seek participants for virtual roundtables on harm reduction

Contact: Sharon Swanson, Jacob Ewing

The U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are collaborating on a project aimed at:

  1. Learning how criminal justice professionals across the country are currently implementing harm minimization programs; and
  2. Developing educational resources to further partnership efforts between public health and public safety to enhance the provision of harm minimization programs.

BJA and CDC have enlisted the Institute for Intergovernmental Research and the Advocates for Human Potential, Inc., to convene practitioners in the field for a series of virtual roundtables to learn:

  •  If or how they are implementing harm reduction programs and policies.
  • What successes they have.
  • What challenges they face.
  • What resources or materials will improve their efforts.

To support the roundtables, the CDC and BJA are looking for individuals from programs that are willing to share what their agency/system is currently doing in the field of harm reduction or programs that may not have implemented harm reduction strategies in their work but are wanting to learn more.

To apply to participate in the roundtables or if you have any questions, please email Chris Morgan at cmorgan@iir.com. Those wanting to participating in the roundtables should include the flowing information no later than October 16:

  • Name
  • Title
  • Agency
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Advocacy
  • Public safety & criminal justice
