Cities have a seat at the table to discuss opioid penalties expenditures

Contact: Sharon Swanson, Jacob Ewing

An amendment passed by the House provides cities with a seat on the Opioid Epidemic Response Advisory Council.

HB 2786 establishes the Opioid Epidemic Response Advisory Council (Council) as a body to advise the Legislature on the expenditure of financial penalties collected from litigation against opioid manufacturers or distributors.

The attorney general (AG) will appoint members of the Council from various groups including local governments. Within 30 days of the state receiving financial penalties from ongoing litigation, the AG will convene the Council to develop and submit recommendations on how to distribute the revenues. AWC is a voting member of the Council.

AWC supports the bill in its current form.
