Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to contact their legislators over the last few weeks to urge them to support Tax Increment Financing (TIF) implementation.
If implemented, TIF will provide cities with a mechanism to construct public infrastructure to spur economic development and job growth within their jurisdiction. This financing tool is already available in 49 other states and Washington, D.C. and now is the time for it to come to Washington state.
HB 2778 and HJR 4212, both sponsored by Rep. Pat Sullivan (D–Covington), create a legal framework and set forth a constitutional amendment to voters allowing cities and towns in Washington to use TIF. Both pieces of legislation are essential to the successful implementation of this funding mechanism.
TIF is a priority issue for cities and we encourage you to ask your legislators to support both pieces of legislation.
HB 2778 and HJR 4212 are now in the House Rules Committee.
