Legislation allowing for immediate fireworks bans is on the move

Contact: Sharon Swanson, Jacob Ewing

A new bill no longer makes cities wait one year to ban fireworks.

Under current law, jurisdictions that enact a fireworks ban must wait up to one year before the restrictions can go into effect. HB 2307, sponsored by Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon (D–Burien), removes the one-year waiting period and allows cities to implement restrictions immediately.

HB 2307 is currently in the House Rules Committee awaiting a vote of the House of Representatives.

AWC supports the legislation.
