A House bill establishes new requirements for police managing missing person cases.
HB 2792, sponsored by Rep. Gina Mosbrucker (R–Goldendale), places new requirements on police departments managing missing person cases. The new requirements include:
- Searching jail booking and reporting systems if a missing person has not been found within 30 days of being reported missing.
- Submitting information regarding the missing person to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System if the individual has not been located within 60 days of being reported missing. If there is any concern that the individual is in immediate danger, the report must be made within 30 days.
- Once an individual is located, police departments must report such information to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System within 48 hours.

HB 2792 is scheduled for a public hearing in the House Public Safety Committee at 1:30 pm on Monday, February 3. The bill is scheduled for a committee vote at 8 am on Thursday, February 6.
