Introduced by Sen. Reuven Carlyle (D–Seattle), 2SSB 5376 establishes the Washington Privacy Act. The act restricts how private companies can use data and facial recognition technology. The bill also prohibits state and local government agencies from using facial recognition technology to engage in surveillance of individuals in public spaces, unless it is in support of law enforcement activities and obtained via a warrant or the is an emergency involving imminent danger or risk of death to a person.
