Emergency work zone bill scheduled in Senate Transportation Committee

HB 1496, concerning emergency work zones, is scheduled for a public hearing in the Senate Transportation Committee.

The bill adds a provision to RCW 46.61.212 that drivers on a four-lane highway who approach emergency or work zone areas when flashing lights are deployed must reduce their speed to 50 mph or less if it would be unsafe to change lanes or move away from an emergency or work zone vehicle. The bill also adds areas where tow trucks are using flashing lights to the list of areas where this law applies.
