Contact: Sharon Swanson, Shannon McClelland

HB 1225 establishes requirements for law enforcement officers when responding to domestic violence calls. An amended version of the bill passed the House 60-38 and is now in the Senate Law & Justice Committee awaiting a hearing.

HB 1225 includes standards for removal of firearms and ammunition upon probable cause to believe a crime was committed. The bill was amended to provide limited immunity to public officials, employees, and agencies for any damages that arise from firearms seizure. A court may impose a firearm prohibition on a defendant as a condition of release pending trial.
