Bill to expand alternatives to arrest, creates grant program, advances to Senate

Contact: Sharon Swanson, Brandon Anderson

A bill to create a grant program expanding alternatives to arrest passed out of the House and is now in the Senate. The grant program would support local initiatives to properly identify criminal justice system involved persons with substance use disorders and other behavioral health needs.

2SHB 1767 passed the House 89-8 and is now in the Senate Health & Long Term Care Committee. A hearing has not been scheduled.

AWC continues to support this legislation as an additional tool to aid individuals with behavioral health challenges at or prior to the time of arrest and booking.
