Found property bill passes House

Contact: Sharon Swanson, Shannon McClelland

HB 1764, sponsored by Rep. Kelly Chambers (R–Puyallup), proposes to change the threshold related to the requirements of found property from $25 to $100. The finder would not have to surrender the property to law enforcement unless the value of the item was more than $100. The bill also requires the Office of Financial Management (OFM) to adjust the threshold for inflation every five years, beginning July 1, 2025.

A substitute version of the bill passed the House and has been referred to the Senate Local Government Committee. A hearing has not been scheduled.
