Proposal to increase fines for violators of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes

SB 5695, sponsored by Sen. Marko Liias (D–Lynnwood), would increase HOV traffic infraction penalties. The bill is agency-request legislation from the Washington State Department of Transportation. Below is the proposed new fee schedule:

  • The first offense would cost $100, plus statutory assessments;
  • The second offense would cost $225, plus statutory assessments; and
  • The third offense and all offenses thereafter would cost $350, plus statutory assessments.
