Online tool shows local student homelessness data

Contact: Carl Schroeder, Shannon McClelland

For the first time, localized data about students experiencing homelessness is now available online. Building Changes has launched a set of online dashboards through the Schoolhouse Washington project website that let users view student homelessness data by individual school districts, legislative districts, and counties. The online data is based on their recently released report.

The online dashboard provides data on:

  • The number and percentage of students experiencing homelessness
  • The percentage of students experiencing homelessness who are students of color
  • The number and percentage of students experiencing homelessness by grade band (grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12)
  • The percentage of students experiencing homelessness by nighttime residence (doubled-up, hotels/motels, shelters and unsheltered)
  • Outcomes for students experiencing homelessness – with comparisons to their housed peers – in attendance, English language arts proficiency, math proficiency and high school graduation
